What it is
A moon phase map is a custom print of the exact phase of the moon on a specific night. Every print is rendered from real NASA imagery of the lunar surface, captured by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, a spacecraft that has mapped the moon's terrain to within a few metres.
How it's made
You choose your date and place, and our system calculates precisely where the moon sat in its 29.5-day cycle at that exact moment, then renders the phase, illumination and moon age as they truly were. Because the cycle never repeats cleanly against the calendar, the same phase falls on your date roughly once every 19 years. The moon that night belonged to your moment.
